Old Dominion University basketball player Kent Bazemore was arrested inside the Constant Center arena Tuesday  night, just minutes before the Monarchs were tipping off against Mercer University in the CIT Tournament.  Bazemore, who is a senior, was forced to miss what turned out to be the final game of his college career as ODU lost to Mercer, thus ending their season.

No one will accuse Virginia Beach Police officers of  having  a  heart after driving 20 miles to the arena and placing the student under arrest for missing a court-ordered alcohol education class stemming from a DUI arrest in 2011.   While his attorney, Peter Decker III, admits Bazemore made the mistake of not following through on the order, and attributed his client’s  oversight as simply being a student/athlete with a lot going on, but a situation to learn from.

The senior had averaged 15 points & 6 rebounds per game for Old Dominion, and helped lead them to the NCAA Tournament last year.
