“American Idol” contestant Jermaine Jones withheld information from show producers and now he’s paying the price.
Jones was kicked off “American Idol” Wednesday night, after producers learned he concealed the fact that he was arrested twice last year and has outstanding warrants.
Producers discovered Tuesday that Jones had lied about his criminal history, which prompted the decision to confront him on camera Tuesday afternoon. The on camera confrontation aired on Wednesday’s “American Idol” episode.
Reportedly, one of the incidents involved violence, which was especially unsettling to producers. He also lied to cops by giving them fake names both times he was arrested.
TMZ reported that Jones told producers his father abandoned him 10 years ago, but Jones’ dad said his son see each other regularly.
Jermaine began tweeting that he never told producers about his dad abandoning him. Reportedly, “Idol” producers became suspicious and started looking further into his background, leading to the revelation of his criminal history.
Jones, 25, of Pine Hill, N.J., confirmed via Twitter that he’s being booted from “Idol”: “Awww I will no longer b on the show,” he said, according to USA Today. Jones’ Twitter account has already been deleted.
Jones was kicked off the show a few weeks ago, only to be brought back into the competition.
Jermaine Jones is not the first “American Idol” contestant to be kicked off for failing to disclose a criminal record. “American Idol” contestant Corey Clark was disqualified from the show’s second season for concealing his arrest in connection with a battery charge.
