In a new interview with Elle magazine, Heidi Klum opens up about her breakup with Seal and why she’s refrained from discussing their separation with the press.

“He’s going to be 50 next year.” she said of Seal, whose name is tattooed on her arm. “He’s a grown man. I can’t tell him what to do and what not to do. It’s hard.”

She sounded peeved about Seal going on CNN and other TV shows to tell the world about how they broke the news of their break up to their four young children.

“I feel like already so many things being said about us — about him, about me,” Heidi, 38, told Elle magazine in an April cover story.

Klum said, since she and Seal separated in January, “I feel like I’m in the eye of the tornado. It’s emotions inside of your body that are a tornado. And then the outside world doing all this craziness – with you wanting it or not wanting it – is another tornado. But as hard as it is, so is life.”

Seal revealed information that Heidi would have preferred to keep private.

“People don’t need to know who did what,” she said. “But I’m a lioness. I have four cubs. I’m a mom. I want to take care of my kids and protect them. I don’t want to talk about them, or him, or me.”

“I don’t want to talk positively or negatively about the ups and downs that we had,” said Heidi. “Every couple goes through things. Unfortunately, we’re in the public, so the highs are out there. But I don’t think it’s necessary — especially for our children — to have the lows being printed in magazines and talked about.”

Heidi and Seal split after 7 years of marriage. The estranged couple has 4 children together including Heidi’s 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship whom Seal adopted.
