While it wasnt a winning weekend for the three Virginia schools still in the NCAA Tournament, we certainly have next year’s excitement to look forward to. Congratulations to the VCU Rams on a fantastic season.  Getting 29 wins and a basket away from the Sweet 16 speaks volumes about Shaka Smart and this young VCU team. The Rams fell to Indiana on Saturday in Portland.

Norfolk State made its first NCAA appearance ever, and the MEAC Champs made the most of it in knocking-off 2nd-seeded Missouri in the second round, but didn’t bring their A-game into the matchup with Florida.  The Spartans, like VCU, returned to a hero’s welcome back home in VA, and celebrated their historic win.

The Lady Pirates of Hampton University were fortunate to have a virtual home game in the NCAA Women’s Tournament, a stroke of luck for a 16th-seed taking on the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal in Norfolk.  Being so close to home didn’t translate into an upset as Hampton falls before a huge partisan crowd in Tidewater.  Again congrats to VCU, NSU, UVA, and HU!
