(Washington, DC) – First Lady Michelle Obama will join with executives from Wal-Mart to make a “major announcement” on “food formulation, availability and affordability.” Wal-Mart is set to reveal a five-year plan to make the packaged foods it sells healthier by lowering salt, fat and sugar in their products. The nation’s largest retailer will also announce price rollbacks on fruits and vegetables.
Mrs. Obama has made healthy eating and the reduction of childhood obesity her top initiative, calling her campaign “Let’s Move.” Citing the fact that nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese, Obama said, quote, “the physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake.” She even went so far as to plant the first White House vegetable garden since Eleanor Roosevelt served as First Lady.
